Classen News 8/24/08 This week is a "B" week. Friday, August 29th is a "B" Day.
From the Counselors Office: YXL PROGRAM Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: YXL applications are available in the guidance/counseling office for 2008-2009. This program teaches students how to become more effective community leaders. It includes examining personal leadership styles, learning about processes and techniques that promote community development, participating in group dynamics exercises, and exploring local organizations that are involved in improving our community. The program runs from October through May. Students will miss classes one day per month. Please see Ms. Brady or Mrs. Schroeder for the application. Application due by Monday, September 8th, 2008.
Any parent needing a bus transportation schedule may pick on up in the guidance/counseling office.
Agendas will be given out by September 5th. An ordering glitch is responsible for their untimely delay.
Not everyone received a student handbook on Friday. More will be coming. Kristal Thomas (962-0204) is the go-to girl for questions in the counselor's office.
Classen Orchestra Parents There will be an SOS meeting Thursday, August 28 at 7:00 in the orchestra room. All orchestra parents are urged to attend (all grades). This is the meeting where you find out all the orchestra stuff your kids don't tell you.

Housing Needed: There are three male foreign exchange students at Classen, ( Germany , Brazil and Thailand ) who need a home. If you can offer a place to stay for one or both of these guys, please contact Wayne Dempsey wk 232-1231, hm 524-6395.
Locker Issues: Classen SAS has over 1,100 students and less than 300 workable lockers. Students who want a locker must share a locker with 2-4 other students. Seniors get the most desirable lockers (first floor). Many students donʼt mess with a locker at all-they bring all of their stuff like books/lunch/phones/ipods/jackets with them and carry them all day long. There is very little time between classes to get to a locker and the hallways are VERY crowded. It is a challenge to get to class on time, much less get to a locker. Right now there is no space in the building to add additional lockers. It is possible that MAPS will address this issue, but that is not known at this time. Locker assignments can be obtained at the counselors office (Krystal Thomas 962-0204). 6th grade students usually do not have to carry books back and forth from home to school because 6th grade core classes TRY to have enough books for a classroom set. This is done to help ease 6th graders into the Classen Way .
Ride Needed: In desperate need of a ride for my kids both to and from Classen SAS School . We live in SW OKC area near S.Penn and 104th. I have a 7th grader and a 9th grader. We will help w/gas expenses, etc. Please reply to maximail4u@hotmail.com or call 703-2993. Thanks
Newsletter Question: (1) Why does it show that Beth Croll is sending me this newsletter? Didn't her children all graduate?? Because Beth set up the yahoo newsletter account, her login name cannot be changed from the yahoo account. Beth's last child did indeed graduate from Classen last spring (congrats Beth!). Dixie Hendrix took over for Beth in August 2008. (2) How do I submit information to the Classen News?? Submit information to classenptsa@yahoo.com. Dixie will put your information in the news. Mostly this is a cut and paste affair but upon occasion some editing will take place. Please try to avoid attachments. (3) How often does Classen News come out? In general the Classen News will go out once a week-usually Saturday or Sunday. If requested it will go out more often. At the beginning and end of the school year Classen News will be sent out more often. Submissions are requested by Friday. (3) How do I stop receiving the Classen News?? Send your request to be taken off the list to: classenptsa@yahoo.com
