PTSA UPDATE:  The end of this school year is fast approaching!  There are several PTSA items to keep in mind:

·        Remember our Commitment Campaign from the beginning of the year?  In short, PTSA decided to change our fundraising plan from one of multiple events during the year to a focused plan of where all families “commit” to fund the PTSA programs and reduce our dependence on fundraising events.  This highly successful plan has helped reduce the guilt of missing specific dates or just not being interested in golf or auctions!  If you have not yet made a donation or wish to make additional contributions, a letter will be mailed to all households on Friday to give us all an opportunity to fund the year-end teacher grant program.  So, check those mailboxes this weekend!

·        Be sure to mark your calendars to attend the last general meeting of the year at 6:00 p.m. on May 13 when we will be wrapping up the business of this year including voting on two important items:

o   Bylaws changes – every three years, PTA organizations are required to update their bylaws and this is our year to do so.  Our Bylaws Committee has reviewed the existing bylaws as well as recommended language from the National PTA and has recommended some modifications.  To review the proposed changes, go to http://www.okcps.org/hs/classen_sas/pta.htm or email Lou Kohlman [lou_kohlman@sbcglobal.net] for additional information.

o   Officer Elections – Each year, the Nominating Committee solicits officer candidates for the upcoming year.  At the April general meeting, the  committee announced these candidates: President - Bea Scofield, President-elect - Ann Matheny, Vice President - Billie Thomas, Teacher Vice President - Trena Brown, Secretary - Christi Zelley, Treasurer - Casey Russell.  At the May meeting, we will select our 2008-2009 PTSA leadership from among these candidates and any nominated from the floor.

Hope to see you all there!

Shawn Abernathy

Classen SAS PTSA President

Howdy Classen Parents:

We have had some folks sign up to bring food for the upcoming Teacher's Appreciation Lunch (Thurs. May 1).
