Howdy Classen PTSA Parents!
The "End O' Semester" Teachers Appreciation Luncheon is just around the corner (Thurs. Dec. 13th), and we need your help!

In recent years, the PTSA has organized two luncheons a year (December and May).as a small token of parents' appreciation for our creative and dedicated Faculty and Staff.

If you've provided food items in the past, then please know that your contributions are truly appreciated (We have personally heard dozens of gracious comments from teachers and staff who look forward to the luncheons at the end of each semester).

Coming up soon we will again have a Teacher's Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, December 13th.

Much like prior luncheons, we will furnish a main course which this time around will be barbecue brisket, but we need contributions for side dishes (deserts, veggies, fruit, breads, salads, drinks etc. )
We need to plan as though there will be about 85 adult servings, so please keep this in mind in terms of the items and quantity that you can bring.

If you can contribute any of the following items, please email what you’d like to provide, including your name and phone number to the following address: budivantiger@aol.com, by Saturday, Dec. 8th.

Side Dishes: Since we are feeding a large crowd, please prepare your side dish(es) to feed at least 12 to 20 folks (or more if you can), so that the serving line will move faster and not take up so much space on the serving tables. Also, we will have a very limited ability to warm items up prior to serving, so if you’re items need to stay warm, then please bring your items to the Media Center (Library on 2nd floor) between 9:45 and 10:15 so that they can be served warm. HINT: if you can provide a warming tray or hotplate, then please send them (with your name labeled on them) with your food items, and they will be placed on the cart outside the office at the end of the school day for you or your child to pick up. In lieu of a hotplate, an empty ice chest works pretty well to keep items warm for awhile.

Examples of side dishes are:

-Casseroles
-Vegetables

-Fresh fruit trays
-Salads
-Bread and/or rolls

Desserts: Again, it would be most helpful if you can prepare a dessert(s) large enough to feed 12 to 20 or more (i.e. 2 to 3 dozen cookies or brownies, a sheet cake, or several pies).

Food Dropoff/Dishware & utensils etc. For many of you it’s easiest if you send food items in with your child as you drop them off at school. On Thursday, Dec. 13th we will have a large wheeled cart outside of the office beginning at 7:00 a.m. to accept food items. If possible, it is very helpful if you can send any of the above items in disposable containers (i.e. foil trays) that can be discarded after the luncheon. However, if you send any bowls, casserole dishes, or utensils, or hotplates, please clearly label these with your child's name and grade on it. At the end of the lunch, these items will be washed and dried and then placed back on the cart that will be parked near the office for your child to pick up at the end of the school day.

Donations:  If you simply can't provide any food items that week, but you'd still like to contribute to the Teacher Appreciation Festivities you are welcome to make a cash donation and/or a merchandise donation and/or poinsettias.(see details to follow)

$$$ donations: (checks preferred): Please make checks payable to Classen PTSA, and write Dec. T.A. gifts in the memo line. So we have enough time to use your contribution for luncheon decorations and small gift items we ask that you turn in your donations into the PTSA box (located within the office) by no later than the end of the school day, Monday, Dec. 10th.

Merchandise/Services Donations:
In the past, many Classen PTSA parents have donated various gifts/coupons/vouchers/gift cards etc. for the Teachers Appreciation. We’ve had donations for car washes, oil changes, movie passes, restaurant coupons, carpet cleanings, coffee mugs, food baskets, candy and a host of other goodies. Another great gift idea are poinsettias. We'd like to get a minimum of 12 (more is even better) poinsettias donated, which we'll use half of them for the first lunch table decorations and the other half for the second lunch. At the end of each lunch, we simply draw names and give the flowers away to teachers and staff as door prizes.

If you'd like to contribute something along those lines, then please contact Cheri Crabtree at email: phisooner@yahoo.com or ph. 330-6096 eves. to make any further arrangements.  Again, it'd help if you can make your non-food donation(s) by no later than Monday, Dec. 10th.

Adult Volunteer Prep/Servers/Clean-Up: Obviously, we need several adults to help at the luncheon. We will need a few volunteers to arrive at approximately 9:30 a.m. to setup a few decorations, and then we will need volunteers for the 2 shifts: 10:00 a.m.  - 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 - 1:00 (approx). Whether you can stay for the entire time, or, only help for a single shift, we certainly welcome any assistance you can provide. Just let us know (see email above) if you'd like to assist in prep/serving or clean-up.
In conclusion, through our wonderful Faculty and Staff, we feel that Classen has a truly unique "culture" of learning and creativity for our kids! Although it's really a small token of our appreciation, the luncheons are very much appreciated by everyone who attends. We invite you to help once again give the Classen staff another well deserved "Thank You" for another great year.
