Picture Retake Day is
on Monday the 8th of October, so if you missed the first picture day or
would like to purchase school pictures, be prepared! There are picture
envelopes for those purchasing pictures for the first time in the main
office. Additionally, seniors who have not been photographed at Prestige
must have their pictures taken on Monday. We will have a list of all those
who need to be photographed on Monday.
Popcorn Popping assistance needed with Mathcounts:
On Wednesday afternoons, approximately 40 students gather in Ms. Hall’s
classroom to prepare for Mathcounts competition. She begins by offering
them a snack of popcorn. It takes less than an hour to pop enough
popcorn (she has a microwave in her room) for all of the students – but
if a parent assists with the popping, she can teach math instead of
popping and serving popcorn. If your student is a present or past
Mathcounts participant, this is a good way to say “thank you” to Ms.
Hall for all the time she spends with our kids. If you can help, please
e-mail or call her parent/teacher liaison, Mary Jenkins (who usually
pops the popcorn but sometimes has scheduling conflicts), as follows:

Parents,
The Oklahoma City Public School District bond election will be held on
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007. I want to encourage you to mark your calendars and
remember to vote.
The bond issue will NOT raise taxes. It is designed to continue the
progress that started with MAPS for Kids.
The district has made amazing progress since the passage of MAPS for Kids.
Three new high schools and one new elementary school have been built, four
major school renovations have been completed and many more are underway.
Student test scores are up and the district has expanded alternative
education programs.
Passage of the $248.3 million package will help address the district’s
infrastructure needs for the next six to seven years. The bond issue will
fund four propositions.
Proposition 1 includes $212 million to build 47 gymnasiums at elementary
schools that currently do not have gymnasiums and more than 50 new
classrooms throughout the district. Funds will also be used for routine
maintenance such as roofing, heating and cooling systems and improvements at
alternative education sites.
Proposition 2 will provide $21.1 million for technology in classrooms,
improved networking for better evaluation of student achievement and new and
updated library materials.
Proposition 3 includes $7.3 million for transportation, allowing the
district to continue to retire 10-year old buses that are too expensive to
maintain.
Proposition 4 will provide $7.9 million for improved safety and security
systems and other equipment throughout the district.
Please remember to vote on Tuesday, October 9th your vote will
make a difference for our kids!
