GRADING A grade will be determined by weighing classroom assignments 90% (unit and teacher made tests, class work, and independent work), and homework assignments are the reaming 10% of the grade. The following numerical values will be used in determining letter grades for students in grades 1 - 5. A 100-90 B 89-80 C 79-70 D 69-60 F 59-0 HOMEWORK The Oklahoma City Board of Education believes that homework is an important part of the learning experience for students. The major purposes of homework are to help students to become self-directed, independent learners, and improve their achievement. The Board recognizes that cooperation between parents and school is essential to effective home study. Parents should provide conditions conducive for studying and should monitor their children's home study time. Again homework will count for 10% toward a student's grade. Homework will be given on a daily basis. The district as a whole is experiencing difficulty in raising test scores in the areas of Reading Comprehension and vocabulary. Therefore, each student will be required to do a reading and/or vocabulary assignment each night. This will be in addition to the regularly assigned tasks. Homework should be consistently assigned with the following minimum amounts of time to each level. :GRADE: K 10-20 minutes per day 1-2 20-30 minutes per day 3-4 minutes per day 5 45-60 minutes per day (Each grade level may choose to send additional assignments as needed. However, for those students identified as gifted by the State Department of Education guideline, parents can expect additional assignments and/or projects in addition to the regular assignments.) REPORT CARDS Report cards to parents will be sent four times, one for each quarter of the school year. The fourth quarter report card will be given to students at the end of the last day of school. Progress reports will also be sent home mid-quarter each quarter to inform you of your child's progress. |
