Illness- Accidents

We do not have a full-time nurse and we have limited facilities and personnel to care for sick children. Please do not send your child to school if he/she is ill, especially if they have an above normal temperature. If your child becomes ill at school, we will attempt to contact you at home or at work. It will be your responsibility to pick up your child or to contact someone who will. Should your child have an accident at school that might require the services of  physician, we will give first-aid and notify you. If a parent cannot be contacted, 911 may be called if necessary. It is important that we have on file in the school office an emergency telephone number that we can call. This emergency number will be used when we are unable to make contact at home or work.

Screening

We provide comprehensive health screening in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students. In  Pre-Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th we try to do vision and hearing. These screenings examine various student health variables, including their weight, height, and blood pressure. Tests are also performed on the student’s vision, hearing, and mouth health to determine if any problems are present.

Head Lice

Head lice is a communicable situation.  Any child having head lice will not be allowed to attend school until the child is nit-free and deemed by a school nurse to be able to return to school. Parents are responsible for the treatment of their child when they are found to have head lice. The school will provide parents with the information to treat the child's head and your house. Please note: It is important that you know that according to the  Oklahoma County Health Department, it does not take longer than 24 hours to treat head lice; therefore, any child absent from school longer that one day will be considered unexcused.

Board Policy

In order to insure a more complete recovery of your student and to help control the spread of communicable disease at school, it is advisable to keep a sick child at home for twenty four (24) hours after fever or other abnormal symptoms have subsided. Your cooperation in this matter will be appreciated.

Immunizations

The Oklahoma State Department of health has issued new stricter guidelines with regard to immunizations and records for children enrolled or planning to enroll.  Oklahoma law requires no less than;

PreKindergarten: 4-DPT; 3-IPV; 1-MMR; 3-HEP B;  2-HEP A; 1-VARICELLA

Kdg. thru 5th: 5-DPT; 4-IPV; 2-MMR; 3-HEP B; 2-HEP A; 1-VARICELLA

At the time of enrollment, one must present to the school officials an Immunization Card properly filled out and signed by the private doctor or health clinic. Dates must be given (dates so show month and year of shot). *Children who are "in process" of receiving a medically approved schedule of immunizations, will be allowed to enroll in school as always. The school nurse will monitor to see that the child returns the signed card to her after each future immunization is received until the child completes the entire schedule. Please note: Without this proof, the child will be excluded from school.
