THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

INTRODUCTION

The writer Robert Louis Stevenson was very worried when he received word that his sweetheart Fanny was ill in America.  Stevenson knew that he must go to be with her.  He traveled across the Atlantic from Europe and then set out on his trip to California to find Fanny.  He did not know that his trip would be a lesson in the geography of the United States.  The United States has almost every kind of landform you can think of.  He would experience mountains, plateaus, hills and plains.  He would travel through what is now described as the Northeast Region, the Southeast Region, the Middle West, the Southwest and the West.

THE TASK

Your task is to recreate Stevenson’s journey across America in the year 2006.

Pack your bag and get ready to go!

You must visit each of the  major geographic regions (Northeast, Southeast, Middle West, Southwest and West). Each team member will become an expert in one of the 5 regions of the United States. You must write a diary entry to describe what you see and experience in your region.  Your diary entry will be recorded to use in the travel movie that you will make. (Practice reading it--it should be no longer than 3 minutes). When you are ready, I will assist you in recording and making your movie.  It will be presented to the class.
