Why do we wear pedometers?
We wear pedometers so we can check how many steps we take each day. We are
supposed to take 10,000 steps each day. A pedometer counts each step a
person takes by detecting the motion of their hips. A total of 10,000 steps
per day, equivalent to 5 miles (8.0 km), is recommended by some to be the
benchmark for an active lifestyle.

At Linwood Elementary we use pedometers to
count the steps we have taken. Because the PE teacher wants to know how many
steps we take. We even run laps with our pedometers. When we finish with our
laps almost every student checks how many steps we took. In my class we
write on a paper after school how many steps we have taken with our
pedometer. We do this to see if we are doing well on our step taking and our
health.
