Here’s an upcoming Writing Contest that I thought your students might want to participate in.

RIF Reading Planet Contests for Kids

"I Love My Pet" Writing Contest. The RIF Reading Planet website is planning to host a children's writing contest from February 14 - March 31, 2005. During that time, children ages 5-15 will be invited to write a short story or poem about an animal:

Do you have the best pet? Is your dog always happy to see you, or does your cat know just how to cheer you up? Maybe you even have a special bird or lizard that makes your day! RIF wants to know just how much you love your pet. Write an essay or poem describing just how wonderful your family animal is. Don't have a family pet? You can write about an animal that you admire from children's literature that would make an ideal pet. Think of the animals featured in Because of Winn Dixie, Charlotte's Web, Black Beauty, The Cricket in Times Square, Babe the Gallant Pig, or any book of your choice. Come back soon for details!
