Job Shadowing
is a limited experience which broadens the teachers’/students’
exposure to career opportunities by observing employees in their everyday
workplace setting.
The benefits for
the student are relevancy of academic and vocational skills, integration
of “hands-on/real life”
applications of course content, and motivation to broaden career goals.
Two sets of Job
Shadowing forms are available. There is one set with all of
the information needed by teachers and students for a traditional Job Shadowing
experience. A separate set of forms is available for the
business/industry participants hosting students for Job Shadowing.
Both sets of forms can be downloaded at the bottom of this page or from
the "Forms" section of the CTE website.
A Virtual Job Shadowing Report
Form is also now available. It was developed specifically to be used
with the VirtualJobShadow.com program. The report form can be
downloaded at the bottom of this page or from the “Forms” section of the
CTE website.
Transportation arrangements for job
shadowing must meet board policy. If in doubt, contact your site
administrator for approval.
Junior Achievement can provide a Job Shadowing
implementation guide, brochures, and ribbons for students to wear on the
day of their Job Shadow experience. They will also provide a
liability insurance certificate. The insurance coverage is only in
effect if the completed application form is submitted to Junior
Achievement to register the students and businesses prior to the Job
Shadow date. The
application form can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. The
completed application can be emailed or faxed to
Donna McGivern at Junior Achievement. Her email address
is dmcgivern@JAOKC.ORG
or her fax number is 235-3147. You may reach
Donna by phone at 235-3399.
