The Oklahoma City Public School District (OKCPS) recently announced that Melinda Elms will serve as principal at Hawthorne Elementary starting the 2016-2017 school year. "I'm honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such dedicated staff and students", said Elms. Principal Elms has been assigned to Hawthorne and will replace Principal Randy Brewer who retired after the 2016-2016 school year. Principal Elms has been with OKCPS for 11-years she comes to Hawthorne after serving one year at Greystone Lower Elementary.
Principal Elms has established several priorities for Hawthorne, "Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Hawthorne by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. We will focus on the Oklahoma Academic Standards, use data to adjust instruction, remain consistent during implementation of newly adopted curriculum and instructional strategies to increase students' achievement, while providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students."
Elms is excited to start the school year, and is looking forward to making connections through the Hawthorne Elementary family, "It's important to me that everyone who steps through our doors, students, staff, parents, and community are excited to be there! This attitude and partnership enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. My door is always open and I welcome input."
