Health Department Announces More H1N1 Public Clinic
The Oklahoma City-County Health Department will hold H1N1 public clinics for anyone who wants to receive the vaccine. Presently, 12 clinics have been scheduled throughout the months of November and December with additional clinics being announced as needed. These clinics will be held at various locations throughout Oklahoma County and will be held in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools, Oklahoma City Fire Department, EMSA, Bethany First Baptist Church, Putman City Schools and other volunteers.
According to Gary Cox, Director, “Now that the criteria for priority groups have been lifted, we want to encourage everyone who wants to get an H1N1 vaccination to visit one of the clinics that will be held near them. We are announcing multiple sites and we expect more vaccine deliveries as we schedule more clinics".
Cox went on to say, “The more vaccine we can get to the public the better the chance of lessening the severity of this H1N1 influenza pandemic.”

While the H1N1 clinics will be open to the general public, individuals in priority groups that have been designated by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) continue to be at higher risk than other people in the population. As a result, the health department encourages those within the following categories to get the vaccine if they haven’t already done so. The priority groups are:
- Pregnant women
- School-age children ages 6 months to 18 years
- Custodial parents of infants less 6 months of age
- Frontline healthcare workers who have direct patient contact with acutely ill persons
- Adults 19 to 64 years of age with chronic disease
In an effort to save time for people attending the Oklahoma City-County Health Department H1N1 flu clinics, the health department has posted the necessary forms in both English and Spanish on the agency web site.
People planning on attending the H1N1 clinics can go to the health department website, www.occhd.org, visit the “Where do I get an H1N1 flu shot?” section and click the Express Check In button. The vaccine registration forms can be downloaded, printed, and completed by hand. Simply bring the completed forms to the next flu clinic.
Anyone bringing a child to the clinic who is not the parent must have a signed permission slip from the parent authorizing the immunizations. The slip must read:
I (Full Name Parent) give permission for (Full Name of Person) to obtain the H1N1 vaccination for: (All children must be listed with full names and date of birth). This slip must be signed and dated with the date they bring the child to the clinic.
The immunizations are free of charge from the health department; however the health department will accept donations to help cover the cost of administering the vaccine.

Response Plan as of 8-14-09
(download the letter)
In response to the US Department of Health and Human Services newest recommendations on how schools should respond to the H1N1 influenza virus, OKCPS announced on August 14, 2009 it’s four response levels.
The levels are:
Level 1 – Prevention Focus – hand washing, guidelines for staying home, sanitizing, etc.
Level 2 – School Closing determined by building principals (make up days will be added to the end of the year for affected schools)*
Level 3 – Feeder Pattern Closing determined by REDs, principals, and district administrators (make up days will apply to feeder patterns also)*
Level 4 – Partial District Closing (all essential employees will report to work)
District officials will work with city, county and state health officials to monitor the situation and address issues as they arise.
All parents should focus on Prevention Methods with their child. OKCPS is providing all schools with posters on hand washing guidelines, and how to recognize flu-like symptoms. For moreinformation on symptoms please contact your doctor or the Oklahoma City County Health Department.
* All missed days will be added to the end of the school year unless the OK State Legislature and the OK State Dept. of Ed determine otherwise.
