Nichols Hills
Elementary School was selected as a 2001 Blue Ribbon School by the
United States Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon School of
Excellence Award, one of the most prestigious education awards in
the country, distinguishes Nichols Hills Elementary for its
excellence in leadership, teaching, curriculum, student achievement,
parental involvement, and community support.

Nichols Hills Elementary is
being considered a finalist for the prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools
Program award.
September 5, 2000
Thanks to community grants we were able to construct "The
Nichols Hills Community Garden" in the central courtyard.
Complete with amphitheater and decorative stone benches, it
is now ready to be enjoyed by all.
Through the months to come, more and more sections will be developed
into butterfly-attracting flower beds.
Our thanks to Penny Harper and her committee for bringing the
delightful spot to life.

PTA raised enough money (greatly due to the auction) to purchase
Computers, TV, and VCR for every First, Second, Third, Fourth, and
Fifth grade class!
Also,
as a result of the PTA fund-raises, we were able to install a
sprinkler system in the front yard of our school.
August 7, 1995
Authorization was given to
construct a circle driveway on the south side of NHES. The cost of
the driveway in the amount of $30,000.00 will be paid by private
donations to the Nichols Hills PTA and will cause no expense to the
district.

Board approves award of
construction contract of J.W. Skaggs Construction Company, Inc.
August, 1994
In other School Board action, Ms.
Carol Berry was appointed Principal and the School was designated as
a Specialty School for International Studies and Fine Arts and
reopened it doors in August 1994 at the temporary location of
Burbank Elementary School.
June 29, 1994
Upon the request of Mrs. Beth
Croll, President of the Nichols Hills Elementary Community PTA, the
board approved the resolution reassigning the Nichols Hills students
to use the Burbank School site until renovation of NHES is
completed.
June 13, 1994
Resolution passed regarding
approval of use of student uniforms at the Nichols Hills Elementary
School. The uniform policy was requested by the PTA.
December 6, 1993
Resolution passed: approving of
boundaries for Nichols Hills Elementary School.
August 9, 1993
Board approved authorizing Bond
Election for District in the amount of $91,435,000.00 and including
renovations of existing building at 1301 West Wilshire Blvd. At
estimated cost of $1,585,000.00
August 2, 1993
Wilshire Hills Developers talked
about the aspects for potential development of a planned unit
development of the Nichols Hills Elementary site.

The building was closed due to
declining enrollment.
June 22, 1938
Board accepted a letter from the
Nichols Hills School Committee inquiring about the completion date
of the school on behalf of the committee, the Mothers’ Club and
the Nichols Hills Civic Club and requesting the Board to take action
to procure P.W.A. participation in the completion of the school by
September.
June 24, 1937
It was moved and seconded that
the contract for the new school building be awarded to Harmon
Construction. All members present voted “Aye”.
December 2, 1935
Committee of patrons requested
that a modern school building be erected to replace the two room
frame building presently in use.
June 5, 1933
The Teachers Committee and the
Superintendent recommended that the Nichols Hills School be open for
summer school.
January 11, 1932
Nichols Hills option accepted and
lots purchased.
September 14, 1931
A petition was presented by
patrons of Nichols Hill School District, asking that Mrs. Bonnie
Norton be named a principal and teacher in the higher grades in the
Nichols Hills School. The petition was received and referred to the
Superintendent.
March 2, 1931
Mr. H.L. Danner came before the
Board and requested that a location be selected at this time for a
school in Nichols Hills. It was moved by Mr. McGee and seconded by
Mr. Aubrey that a committee be appointed to look into this matter
and report back to the board.
January 26, 1930
Mr. H.L. Danner, representing G.A.
Nichols, came before the Board with the request that the Board
refrain from bringing suit to compel (sic) the County Assessor to
place Nichols on the tax rolls of the Oklahoma City School District.
After discussion, the board approved by unanimous vote not to push
the matter of mandamusing the County Assessor to place Nichols Hills
on the School District’s tax rolls.
