Rivers Glossary Guide -- Test September 8th


 

·       canal – a man-made channel that connects two bodies of water

·       delta – a triangular piece of land at the mouth of a river

·       drainage basin – the area drained by a single large river and its tributaries

·       irrigation – moving water from a river or lake to dry land to help grow crops

·       landlocked – cut off from the seacoast; surrounded by land

·       mouth – the place where a river empties into a sea or other large body of water

·       orchard – an area where number of fruit trees have been planted

·       pasture – land set aside for cows, horses, or other animals to feed off the natural grasses

·       reservoir – a natural lake, or a lake created by people, for the purpose of storing water

·       silt – fine particles of soil carried by the water in a river

·       tributary – a stream or smaller river that flows into a larger river

·       vineyard – an area where grapes are grown
