Cafeteria: Lunch times vary each day.
Check with your teacher for times. The cost for meals at the cafeteria is
$1.35 per day, and may be paid for by the day, week or month. (Extra milk
is .40 cents) If your child cannot drink milk, please send fruit juice
instead. Lunch may be brought from home if you prefer Please feel free to come
to school occasionally and eat lunch with your child. Please sit with your
student. If you will be eating a school lunch, please make reservations
with Mrs. Harjo (841-0007) by 9:00 a.m. Adult
lunches are $2.10. Breakfast is also available for .60 cents, and is served
from 7:55 a.m.-8:20 a.m. Applications for reduced-price lunches and
breakfasts are available from the cafeteria.
Dropping off and picking up your
children at school: Please do not drop your child off before 8:00 am., unless they are a
paid participant in the before school program! Also, please pick your child
up by 3:00 pm., unless they are enrolled in the after-care program.
Please use the east circle drive on the east side of the school to drop off
and pick up your child. When you do, please remember the following rules to
allow traffic to move smoothly and safely.
Eastbound traffic is not permitted to make a left turn into the circle
drive between the hours of 8:00 to 9:00 am. and
2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
If the circle drive is full, please wait on McKinley, on the east side of
the school, instead of waiting on Wilshire.
When you pull into the circle drive, pull over and stop at the right side
curb, up against the sidewalk nearest the school. This allows your children
to step from the car without going out into traffic. That also keeps the
left side of the drive open for cars to pass by after they have finished
unloading their children. Please do not use the left passing lane for
dropping off or picking up your children, but pull to the right instead.
When you pull into the circle drive, drive as far forward as you can to
allow others to pull in behind you. As cars clear away in front of you,
please continue to pull forward as far as you can.
Please put your child's name on a full-sized sheet of paper and place it on
your right front dashboard so that the staff at the front door can see
which child you have come to pick up.

PTA: Nichols Hills
Elementary School has a remarkably active and
energetic Parents Teachers Association. We cannot encourage you enough to
join this marvelous and extraordinarily helpful organization. Nothing helps
your child more than your involvement in their education, and joining the
PTA is a great way for parents to contribute!
Recess: Weather permitting, students
are given a recess at lunch each day, Decisions to have outside recess
during cold weather depend on the temperature and
the wind chill factor. Shorter outside recess times are scheduled on very
cold days. Students will have supervised free time in the classroom on days
when bad weather prevents outside recess. Students should always dress for
outside recess. All students must be on the playground during outside
recess. Only students with medical excuses will be allowed to remain in the
building during scheduled outside breaks.
Tardiness: Prompt arrival at school is
expected of all students. Any student who arrives at school after 8:30 a.m.
